Friday Night was the Blue and Gold Banquet for The Boy's Cub Scout Pack. Ceremonies happened Matt now carries the Big Stick (which The Girl calls the Staff of M'Att), food was eaten, patches, pins, belt loops and awards, Oh My!
There was also a martial arts Demonstration by a local studio - one of the ones that runs buses for after school care/classes from the schools. We, being the Kim Studio Snobs that we are, all sat there in, I don't know, shock? There was music (the film score for "Pirates of the Caribbean," and Prodigy's "Firestarter," among others), They looked like they were dancing, the counting was in English, it was FLASHY, and there were many boards broken. Thin boards. 5/16" thick? Matt says that Demo boards are often thinner, but The Children are used to (nominally) 1" thick boards for breaking. The Girl is getting to the multiple boards per break level.
Anyway, The Girl was supremely disdainful of the whole show. The rolling of the eyes, the hip-shot, arms folded, head cocked stance. Good lord it was funny. I did have to shut down on her talking smack about it while we were there (because THAT'S rude), but WOW she was funny. Total Us vs. Them mentality.
Also? We came home with the Pack's Flag and Pole, in addition to The Big Stick. Yay. ;)
Should you feel so inclined, The National Capital Area Council would be very appreciate of your donation, and your company might well match it. Take a look: http://www.ncacbsa.org/
